Fall 2027 Applications & Audition Requirements
NOTE: For questions regarding the application, the admissions process, the BFA out-of-state tuition waiver for non-Florida residents, re-auditions, or if you are a current FSU student interested in auditioning for our program, please contact Dr. Jeff Bray.
To apply and audition for the BFA in dance at Florida State University, complete the following steps:
Step 1. Apply to Florida State Univeristy
Complete the FSU Undergraduate Application with Dance as your intended major OR apply to FSU through the Common App with Dance as your intended major.
Please note applying Early Decision is NOT available to students auditioning for the BFA in Dance. Florida Residents may still apply Early Action.

- After submitting the FSU application, you will have access to the Admissions Portal (Note: If you apply using the Common App, you will receive an email within 2-3 business days that provides instructions for accessing your Admissions Portal.)
- On the Admissions Portal, you will:

- Self-report all your test scores.
- Please note: FSU does not accept self-reported test scores from the Common App. Students should self-report their test scores on the Admissions Portal using the Self-reported Test Scores form.
- Link your Self-reported Transcript and Academic Record System (STARS). Please allow one to two business days after linking for the checklist item to be satisfied.
- Upload your essay and resume/list of activities.
- Florida Residents must complete the Residency Declaration form.
- Submit your Dance Supplemental Application
- Upload the video of your Audition Solo in the Portfolio Section
- Self-report all your test scores.
Step 2. Complete the Dance Supplemental Application
After you complete your University Application, complete your Dance Supplemental Application in your FSU Admissions portal

- Select one of our three in-person audition dates (October 28th 2026, January 13th, 2027, or February 10th, 2027)
- Please note that auditions are limited to a certain number of applicants per audition. Each audition will be closed upon reaching maximum capacity
- Provide basic information about yourself and your dance training,
- Upload a resume
- Your resume should include a statement of career goals and specifically highlight dance training and experience
- Upload a photo (either a headshot or full-body photo).
- Select one of our three in-person audition dates (October 28th 2026, January 13th, 2027, or February 10th, 2027)
Step 3. Upload Your Audition Solo
Step 3: In the Portfolio section of your FSU Admissions portal, you will upload a video of a 1-2 minute solo. Solos can be in any dance style of the applicant’s choosing

Click here to learn more- Your audition solo must be uploaded to your Portfolio 1 week before your in-person audition date or you will be removed from the audition roster
- For Freshman/Sophomore dancers auditioning for the BFA program, the choreography for the solo may be their own or by someone else
- Junior/Senior transfer applicants must perform their own choreography
- Solos should be 1-2 minutes in length.
- Audition Solo Videos should be
- Filmed horizontally with the full body of the dancer in the frame
- Performed in class attire (i.e. not in a dance costume) and should be as recent as possible.
- Begin with an introduction of the dancer in tight framing (waist and above) and include:
- Dancer’s Name
- Title of the Solo (if there is one)
- Choreographer’s Name
- Title of the music
- Composer’s Name
- Not exceed 3 minutes total, with 1-2 minutes of dancing.
- DO NOT SUBMIT A VIDEO OF A SOLO PULLED FROM A RECENT PERFORMANCE OR COMPETITION. While the choreography itself can be a solo from a recent performance or competition, it should be filmed in a studio environment in class attire.
Step 4. Attend your in-person audition
Step 4: Attend your in-person audition at FSU School of Dance. During the 2026-2027 academic year, the School of Dance will offer three in-person auditions for our BFA program: October 28th 2026, January 13th, 2027, or February 10th, 2027

Click here to learn moreApplicants will be required to travel to Tallahassee to attend a full day (8am-4:30pm) of on-site audition activities in the School of Dance
All audition activities will be located in Montgomery Hall on the campus of Florida State University.
NOTE: Observers are NOT permitted during audition classes
All applicants auditioning for our program must sign a liability waiver releasing the School of Dance and FSU from liability should the applicant be injured during the audition. If the applicant is not 18 years of age or older, a parent or legal guardian must be present to sign on the applicant’s behalf.
The audition day will begin with an information session. Applicants will proceed to take classes in ballet, contemporary, and improvisation. The day will conclude with group activities so that applicants can learn more about the School of Dance at FSU
Proper dance attire is expected for audition classes
- For ballet:
- Women: close-fitting appropriate dancewear, ballet slippers and/or pointe shoes.
- Men: close-fitting appropriate dancewear and ballet shoes
- For contemporary dance and improvisation:
- Women: close-fitting appropriate dancewear and bare feet.
- Men: close-fitting appropriate dancewear and bare feet.

Please note that in addition to the School of Dance deadlines listed above, applicants must also meet the University Application deadlines listed below.
Additionally, admissions decision release is contingent on the availability of audition results. For example, if an applicant meets the university’s Early Action deadline of October 15, and they attend the January 20th audition, then they will not receive dance decisions on December 11th, etc. Although the university will accept applications until March 1, 2026, the School of Dance will not consider any application submitted after December 8, 2026.

Applicants are required to prepare and submit a solo video
