Below are special notes from students Josiah Barnum and io Ermoli, two of the students who received scholarships in 2024 through Friends of Dance donors like you.

Dear Friends of Dance,

I am so excited about the opportunity to expand my knowledge and education as a dance major. The reason why I chose FSU is because the program is amazing, and I can’t wait for the big opportunity that comes with graduating from this university.

I’m a transfer student from Hillsborough Community College and I have been actively working towards my goals for the last 2 and a half years.

Thank you very much for your generous scholarship towards my education. This donation will be utilized to help impact my life in a major way as I work toward reaching my goals.

Josiah Barnum, BFA Class of 2026

My name is io Ermoli, and I wanted to sincerely thank you for making the Friends of Dance Fund possible. I am incredibly grateful to have been chosen as a recipient. I am a fourth-year Dance Major graduating this Spring and heading to New York City for the Arts in NYC Program in just a few weeks. Your generosity will assist in covering the expenses of this incredible program, granting me the freedom to explore and engage more fully in my artistic pursuits. I am eager to immerse myself in the diverse arts community of New York City, learn from experienced professionals, and gain invaluable insights that will shape my artistic journey. While there, I will intern with Japan Society in their Performing Arts Program. I hope to gain insight into the essential operations of a Performing Arts Program within a distinguished nonprofit organization and a deeper understanding of Japanese performing arts: its cultural significance, history, and contemporary expressions.

I would not be where I am today as an artist and creative without the support and leadership of the wonderful faculty here at FSU. After graduation, I hope to pursue a professional career as a performer and choreographer, using my art to touch hearts and leave audiences changed, even if it is just walking out with a smile. I strive to help people with my art, and your generosity will help me on my way to doing so.
