Montgomery Hall is a state of the art dance facility with six studio spaces, a movement training lab, costume shop, centers for music and technology, a black box theatre, as well as the fully equipped proscenium Nancy Smith Fichter Dance Theatre which seats 374. Several concert series are presented annually including Days of Dance, Evening of Dance, and Masters Projects.
The FSU School of Dance Movement Training Lab (MTL) is a one-of-a-kind space that offers cutting-edge resources to improve the performance, health, and well-being of FSU dance majors. This studio has been built piece-by-piece over the past 30 years, now housing more than 20 top-notch pieces of exercise and movement training equipment. This space has been curated to facilitate the development of dancers and the necessary work required to maintain their physical health as they transition from scholars to professional artists. There is a variety of movement styles and somatic practices rotating through the MTL as it is utilized by students, staff/faculty, and visiting artists hosted by MANCC.
Many of the elective courses revolving around somatic practices such as Pilates, Pilates Reformer, and Gyrotonic® occur in this space, making every educational moment a moving one.
The MTL also houses weekly consultations with FSU Physical Therapy covering any musculoskeletal concerns, injury risk screenings, and rehabilitative programs tailored to each individual dancer as they need it. The MTL staff then provides any extra support and cross-training tools needed to help get dancers back to the preprofessional dancer’s specific demands.
