Please join the FSU School of Dance for “Breaking Barriers and Building Communities” on October 8th from 2:00pm to 4:00pm in Montgomery Hall Room 215.
Facilitated by FSU School of Dance Alumna, nationally and internationally acclaimed artist, Millicent Johnnie. Join influential artists an scholars in the FAMU and FSU dance community as we engage through dance and conversation to dispel assumptions and notions of space throughout the Tallahassee arts community. Through story circles, performances, master classes and lectures, we will come together as we generate insight from personal and professional experiences on both sides of the track.
Louisiana Noir! Master Class with Millie followed by Story Circles.
Louisiana Noir! class explores street and social dances of Louisiana. Some of the dances have their origins in night clubs and dance halls from Southwest Louisiana like “zydeco” while others were created out of parade traditions from New Orleans such as “second line”.
Story Circles bring people together in an equitable, collective experience to share their stories. It is a way of generating insight from personal and professional experience while creating a democratic atmosphere and a safe space for expression.
