Join us on March 28th at 10:30 am for the School of Dance weekly forum with MANCC and MANCC Visiting Artists, Rashaun Mitchell and Silas Riener.
“Artistic collaborators Rashaun Mitchell and Silas Riener come to MANCC to develop their work, Desire Lines: translation. “Desire lines” is a term used in landscape architecture to describe alternate, unofficial routes or social trails through nature. They are essentially records of disobedience and transformation in public space. For this project, Mitchell and Riener will apply this phenomenon to their dance-making process through a series of group improvisation investigations with a rotating cast of performers and collaborators.
Mitchell and Riener will also engage in an exploration of the disparate lineages within their particular dance heritages to draw connections in the areas of improvisation, collage, task-based modes, mimesis, meditation, and transcendentalism. The work and processes of Robert Rauschenberg, Anna Halprin, Charles Atlas, architect Claude Bragdon, and spirit-medium and artist Ethel Le Rossignol will be used as road maps to navigate internal/psychological landscapes, external architecture, and collective desire.”
