Department of Dance Student Awarded Undergraduate Research and Creativity Award
alinewachsmuthsmall.jpg Aline Wachsmuth, a junior in the FSU Department of Dance, has been awarded a $4,000 Florida State University Undergraduate Research and Creative Activity Award to study the development of East German choreographers from 1949 to 1989.

Wachsmuth will travel to East Germany during May and June to conduct interviews with three choreographers who danced or created dance immediately after the fall of the Berlin Wall. She will travel to Dresden, Leipzig and East Berlin.

“I want to explore the evolution of dance after such a time of restriction and communism and how the wall gave a new sense of freedom to the people,” says Wachsmuth.

Following her travels, Wachsmuth will present her work at the Fall 2007 URCAA Symposium. She also plans to create a short documentary on her findings and submit her findings to leading dance publications.

The Florida State University Undergraduate Research and Creative Activity Awards foster directed research and creative opportunities for undergraduate students in all disciplines at FSU. The awards are administered by the Office of National Fellowships. Award recipients receive a summer stipend of $4000 to carry out their proposed research or creative project for twelve weeks under the direction of a supervising professor.
