Responsibilities and Qualifications

The new faculty members in both positions will share responsibilities for dance technique offerings, student mentoring and advising, and professional service at the departmental, college and university levels. The ability to teach a rigorous studio practice is essential for both positions, as is a collegial approach to facilitating creative and critical learning environments. Encouraging fluidity across the domains involved in dance as art is a priority in our program. The new colleagues will be expected to maintain a consistent agenda of research and/or creative activity and engage in ongoing professional development in their area of expertise that leads to recognition within the dance field. The ideal candidate will have a terminal degree or professional equivalence in a related field of expertise. MFA and/or PhD preferred.

Dance Sciences & Studio Practice Position

The new dance sciences and studio practice faculty member will share classroom, studio and individualized teaching responsibilities in the dance sciences. The ideal candidate will be able to integrate training across domains (conditioning, injury management, technique class, rehearsal, choreography, artistic directing) and will serve as a mentor for dancers interested in learning to do similar work. Service to our dancer wellness and injury management programs will be included in the assignment of responsibilities. Our new colleague will be expected to develop and pursue an integrated dance and science research agenda. Candidates who have experience in conducting empirical research with dancers and who have the potential to mentor student research in the dance sciences will be given special consideration.

Dance Technologies & Studio Practice Position

The ideal dance technologies and studio practice candidate will be a specialist in the merger of dance and technology, expertly qualified in video technologies with a record of accomplishments that evidences credentials working with dancers in creative projects such as screendance, dance documentary, dance documentation, projection design, and other media and web technologies. This candidate will be able to integrate current and relevant media technologies within the dancer’s creative process and share the responsibilities for delivering dance-centered technology courses that include applied training utilizing industry-standard software, such as Photoshop, Logic Pro, and Final Cut Pro X, and other applicable programs. This new faculty member will have the opportunity to share their dance-specific expertise and serve as a role model while mentoring thesis and capstone projects that involve integrated technologies at the graduate and undergraduate levels.
